Just going to warn you now before you start reading…. ***BIG SPOILER ALERT***

DO NOT READ FURTHER IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW HOW SEASON 1 OF STAR WARS REBELS WRAPPED UP!

When Star Wars Rebels premiered, it promised to show us the formation of the Rebellion.  And as the the first season rolled out, it did just that.  We watched the crew of the Ghost come together under the leadership of Hera and Kanan.  We watched Ezra move from being a skilled thief to a true padawan.  We saw Sabine’s artistic talent foreshadow the symbol of the Rebellion.  We saw a kind of big brother / little brother relationship develop between Zeb and Ezra.  And we saw Ezra develop a crush on Sabine.  All the while this small but efficient crew took on the Empire and caused havoc wherever it went.

Here and there throughout the season we also saw glimmers of the galaxy we would encounter when Rebels would intersect with A New Hope.  A holocron message from Obi Wan Kenobi hints that he survived Order 66 (which of course we know he did).  An encounter with C3PO and R2D2 let’s us know the droids are alive and well.  We hear Yoda’s voice as he talks to Kanan. The crew of the Ghost lose Chopper in a sabacc match against Lando Calrissian. The Grand Moff Tarkin comes to lead the Empire’s destruction of these annoying rebels.  And of course, Darth Vader bookends the season.

But nothing prepared me for the season finale.  Throughout these 13 or 14 episodes (depending on if you count the pilot as part of the season) the mysterious Fulcrum was coordinating missions for our friends on the Ghost.  We hadn’t seen what Fulcrum looked like beyond a glimpse of a hooded figure.  There was speculation that Fulcrum would be a familiar face in some way, but who?  The electronically disguised voice hinted that it might be male, but even that there was no other indication.

And then the big reveal – AHSOKA TANO!

Ahsoka Tano? Ahsoka Tano? Ahsoka Tano!!!  I said her name over and over so much, I didn’t even realize I was missing what she was saying.  I had to watch it a second time…and a third.  And like so many of the voice actors for the other characters, it was none other than Ashley Eckstein herself reprising her role as the former padawan of Anakin Skywalker.

Since the season began, fans have wondered whatever happened to Ahsoka.  At the end of season five of The Clone Wars, she simply disappeared.  When I had the pleasure of meeting Ashley at Star Wars Weekends last May, I heard many fans asking her if we’d see her character again.  It seemed reasonable to assume that at some point Ahsoka would return, but given Disney’s track record they would build up such an event with lots of promotion!  But nothing.  Not a peep from our friends at Disney XD. What an amazing end to a great season! From beginning to end, this season of Star Wars Rebels has given us joy, triumph, surprises, action, and just plain great storytelling.  Make sure to stay tuned for the launch of Season 2 coming up around the corner!
